Winter Mountaineering 2013
This course is intended for experienced summer hillwalkers. It provides a structured introduction to the skills needed to undertake the classic ridges and scrambles of Scotland. We cover self-arrest using an ice-axe; movement on steep ground using ice-axe & crampons; assessment of avalanche risk; & navigation on winter hills.
Typical days might be the traverse of Liathach, including the pinnacles, or the Forcan Ridge in Glen Shiel. We might climb grade one gullies such as Deep South gully between the Horns of Beinn Alligin, or the Access Gully in Coireag Dubh Mor on the northern side of Liathach, leading up to the top of Spidean a'Choire Leith, the highest peak of Liathach. Our 'Kitlist' page for suggestions of what to wear & carry for a Winter course
If you prefer weekends or from midweek to midweek, please let us know, and we will be able to help. We can usually offer courses at short notice - so if conditions look good during the week, give us a 'ring for the weekend!
